North Carolina Courage // Established in 2017 after being acquired from the Western New York Flash, the Courage are a Division I professional women’s soccer team that play in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). After their move to Raleigh, the club has won 3 consecutive NWSL Shields, the inaugural Women’s ICC Championship, and the 2018 and 2019 NWSL Championships. Working as Creative Director, during my tenure I worked with a wonderful team of talented full-time staff, freelancers, and agency partners to elevate the brand of the club and make it visually competitive with other teams. We challenged to turn our one-off attendees into invested true “all-in” fans.
The Place to Be •In 2025, the NC Courage unveiled the club’s first brand platform, developed in partnership with Exactly and Name and Number. It was a true all-hands effort, with the team capturing every touchpoint and creative element necessary to launch the campaign. The impact was immediate: the club shattered four top-ten attendance records in the first half of the season—demonstrating the campaign’s power to connect with fans and energize the community.
Manifesto
We’re The North Carolina Courage, repping NC in standout professional women’s soccer.
Over here, the state motto looms bright and large:
To Be, Rather Than To Seem
We even wear it on our kits, and for good reason—we step up in big moments both on and off the pitch.
With world-class talent and three NWSL Shields to our name, it’s no wonder we’re doing The Triangle proud.
And, we’re just getting started.
Each day is a new beginning for greatness, for grit, for glory.
Ours is a fierce and loyal family, and we want you to be a part of it.
So, join us in building something even greater together.
Come as you are, be true to yourself:
BOLD. FEARLESS. EXCEPTIONAL.
BELIEVE
BECOME
BELONG
This is the place to BE.
Matchdays • New and exciting motion graphics were created for the video board to create a well-rounded fan experience. The NWSL requires specific social media posts to happen before during and after each match. To go along with the “Place to Be” positioning, new templates were created for home and away matches (home is shown, watch uses a blue base palette).
Paid Media • As part of the ethos of the campaign, we wanted to show that the players contain “multitudes.” They are fierce, fun, warm, family, gritty, etc.
Milestones • Every season brings standout moments—record goals, milestone wins, unforgettable plays—and when our players hit those marks, we celebrate big. The creative team transforms each achievement into art, designing everything from bold social graphics to full campaign kits featuring video board animations, collectible posters, and personalized framed pieces for the players.
Schedule Releases •Every year, schedule release videos are a league-wide showdown—each team trying to outdo the other with the most creative, buzzworthy drop. During my tenure, the NC Courage’s 2024 and 2025 releases didn’t just hold their own—they ranked near the top across fan polls and sports media roundups, standing out for their originality and polish.
“Roary” North Carolina Courage Mascot •Working with the team’s iconic mascot, Roary, is always a joy—she has a way of inspiring creativity without saying a word. Ahead of the 2025 season, I partnered with the Chicago Mascot Company to completely redesign her look, giving her a friendlier, more athletic, and youthful vibe. I collaborated directly with the performer, refining every detail so Roary could express every emotion and movement with authenticity, bringing the character fully to life for fans and content alike.
North Carolina FC // Formerly the Carolina RailHawks, North Carolina FC is a USL Championship Division II team founded in 2016. Leading the shared creative department alongside the NC Courage and a network of freelancers, my goal was clear: raise the bar on design and content for both teams. Working with leaner budgets and tighter timelines than the Courage, I navigated resource constraints, shifting priorities, and overlapping projects—delivering standout creative that matched the energy and ambition of the club.
Carolina Clash • After years without a local matchup, North Carolina FC faced MLS Charlotte FC in a preseason game. With a chilly February weekday threatening turnout, I pitched and branded the event as an experience-first showcase, creating the inaugural Carolina Clash to energize fans and drive ticket sales. The concept proved so successful that it returned later in the year as Carolina Clash Part II, coinciding with a tournament rematch and building lasting fan engagement.
