North Carolina Courage // Established in 2017 after being acquired from the Western New York Flash, the Courage are a Division I professional women’s soccer team that play in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). After their move to Raleigh, the club has won 3 consecutive NWSL Shields, the inaugural Women’s ICC Championship, and the 2018 and 2019 NWSL Championships. Working as Creative Director, during my tenure I worked with a wonderful team of talented full time staff, freelancers, and agency partners to elevate the brand of the club and make it visually competitive with other teams. We challenged to turn our one-off attendees into invested true “all-in” fans.
The Place to Be • For the 2025 season the Courage launched, with the help of Exactly and Name and Number, two amazing agency partners, the club’s first-ever brand platform. It was an all hands effort to to capture and create the breadth of what was needed to launch this campaign. Four, top-ten, club attendance records were broken during the first-half of the season, which can be attribute, in part, 0to the success of this campaign.
Manifesto
We’re The North Carolina Courage, repping NC in standout professional women’s soccer.
Over here, the state motto looms bright and large:
To Be, Rather Than To Seem
We even wear it on our kits, and for good reason—we step up in big moments both on and off the pitch.
With world-class talent and three NWSL Shields to our name, it’s no wonder we’re doing The Triangle proud.
And, we’re just getting started.
Each day is a new beginning for greatness, for grit, for glory.
Ours is a fierce and loyal family, and we want you to be a part of it.
So, join us in building something even greater together.
Come as you are, be true to yourself:
BOLD. FEARLESS. EXCEPTIONAL.
BELIEVE
BECOME
BELONG
This is the place to BE.
Matchdays • New and exciting motion graphics were created for the video board to create a well-rounded fan experience. The NWSL requires specific social media posts to happen before during and after each match. To go along with the “Place to Be” positioning, new templates were created for home and away matches (home is shown, watch uses a blue base palette).
Advertising • As part of the ethos of the campaign, we wanted to show that the players contain “multitudes.” They are fierce, fun, warm, family, gritty, etc.
Milestones • Every season players will reach certain benchmarks that the club likes to celebrate with not only the player, but with the fans too. The creative department is then tasked with creating custom art to celebrate. Sometimes these can be just social media graphics, others are full kit which are social, video board, give away posters, and framed art for the players.
Schedule Releases • These are a big deal every year no matter the professional sports team. It’s an unwritten competition between fans and clubs of where your release video ranks. Under my tenure for both seasons’ 2024 and 2025, NC Courage’s schedule releases have placed in the high in the rankings on many fan and sports reporting lists.
“Roary” North Carolina Courage Mascot • Creating content with the team’s beloved mascot Roary is always a good time. She bring so many good ideas to the table without even saying a word. In preparation for the 2025 season, I had the privilege of working with the famous Chicago Mascot Company to re-design and re-envision Roary’s look to make her look friendlier, sportier, and younger looking. I worked with the performer to ensure every detail was right, so she had every emotion and movement available.
North Carolina FC // Formerly the Carolina RailHawks, North Carolina FC is a United Soccer League (USL) Championship division II professional team founded in 2016. Leading the shared internal creative department with the NC Courage and freelancers, it was the same goal as the Courage, to elevate the design and content offering for the team, this time working with smaller financial and time budgets, while balancing duties and creative resources with ongoing NC Courage needs.
Carolina Clash • For the first time in several years North Carolina FC and MLS Charlotte FC held a local public preseason match. Due to it being a cold February weekday, I thought it would be best to brand this as more of an event to help drive revenue and ticket sales. Thus was born the “Carolina Clash.” We were able to hold a Carolina Clash Part II during regular season as part of a tournament when we played Charlotte FC again.
